Try reading our Poppy poem at home and see if your child can say it along with you.
We've had a lot of discussion in our classroom lately about using kind words and being kind friends.
We read the story Chrysanthemum. It's about a girl that has a really long name and her classmates were making fun of her because of it.
We talked about how saying unkind words can hurt someone's heart. We decided to cut out a heart using construction paper. We showed our friends what happens to a heart when someone is unkind to them.
We explained to our students that if they are thinking about unkind words that they should stop and think about if it's a good idea to say those words out loud. Our wrinkled heart shows that it's hard to take back unkind words even if you say "I'm sorry."
We then had our friends write their name on a bandaid. This represented that they will do their best to be kind to others.

Wow! I am very proud of you boys and girls for the way you and your teachers have honoured peacekeepers who have and continue to serve our country.
